The Gros Islet street party — perhaps Saint Lucia’s most famous “jump-up”— has taken place weekly for more than 50 years, come rain or shine. In fact, the town only takes a night off from hosting Saint Lucia’s most famous party on Good Friday.

You can’t visit Saint Lucia without getting out on the water. Whether you’re exploring the shore on a kayak or heading out deep sea fishing, there are boats all over the island.

You can literally drive right into the crater of this volcano and walk between the bubbling sulfur springs and hissing pools of steam.

Visit Castries Central Market to experience an authentic and colorful side of St. Lucian life. Find row upon row of fruit and vegetable stalls as well as delectable homemade products straight from the island’s farms. The market is a wonderful place to meet the locals, barter good-naturedly and learn about traditional handicrafts.

Housed under a bright orange-roofed building, the Castries Central Market is the island’s main market and is situated in the heart of the capital. Having been in operation for over a century, the market is a city landmark and institution.

Amble slowly among the Craft Market to find painted pottery and wood carvings, handwoven straw baskets and hats, and a plethora of fascinating trinkets and handicrafts.

Saint Lucia’s carnival attracts visitors from all over the world. Some Saint Lucians residing in other countries make a point of returning home for this event. With lots of entertainment, glittery costumes, and opportunities to socialize, let loose, and dance, the carnival on this island appeals to anyone who just wants to have a good time against the backdrop of paradise.
